Reagent Application for β-Hydroxybutyrate 21FS Assay Now Available for Roche cobas® Clinical Chemistry Systems

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, October 16, 2020 – Vidan Diagnostics, LLC today announced that it has validated the reagent application for its β-Hydroxybutyrate 21FS Next Generation Reagent to be used on the Roche cobas® clinical chemistry systems. Roche is a market leader within the in-vitro diagnostics, (IVD) market with more than 50 years’ experience in developing Clinical Chemistry reagents and instrumentation. Beta-Hydroxybutyrate (BHB) is an important marker when used in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests for the diagnosis and management of ketoacidosis and its main causative factor, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

Beta-Hydroxybutyrate
Beta-hydroxybutyrate is the predominate ketone body produced during Diabetic Ketoacidosis, (DKA) It’s relative proportion in the blood, (78%) is greater than the other two ketones, acetoacetate, (20%) and acetone, (2%) and is therefore the best indicator of DKA. DKA is a serious condition that can lead to diabetic coma or even death.
